About The Sharples-Sharpless Family, Vol 1-2

Descendants of John Sharples of Cheshire, England who came to Pennsylvania in 1682 and who bear the Sharples name today have been traced in as much detail as possible. As a general rule the descendants of daughters in the family have been followed only to the extent of listing their grandchildren, but there are some few exceptions. Because of the interest show in this work, the Garrett, Gilpin, Poole and a a few other lines have been included in more detail. In the appendix will be found accounts of families received too late to be placed in the proper place, and also material on some families who are almost certainly descended from John of 1682 but where the connecting link has not been fully documented. The results of recent research in England on the ancestry of John Sharples will also be found in an appendix.

The original manuscript of the work is being placed in the Chester County Historical Society, 225 North High Street, West Chester, Pennsylvania. This contains abstracts of wills, deeds, marriage licenses and other primary and secondary source materials as well as the thousands of returns from members of the family. This original manuscript also contains additional material not printed in this volume. Additions and corrections to it are very welcome and will be gratefully received and added to the original manuscript.
