These include colleges and universities, seminaries and theological institutes, normal schools, medical schools, academies, military schools, and others, as well as various fraternities, societies, and associations.

Records include catalogs, obituary records and necrologies, class histories, speeches and addresses, commencement exercises, class reports, registers, prospectus, circulars, proceedings, annual reports, magazines, and other documents.

The majority of the books are from the 19th century, especially the middle and later half of the century. They come from 43 states.
