About Nevada, Orphan's Home Records, 1870-1920

In Carson City, Nevada stands the building which housed the State Orphans Home from 1870 until 1992. This database contains admissions records for the home from October 1870 until 1920. Requirements for admission were an orphaned child under 14 years of age deemed "worthy" by the County Board of Commissioners.

The records in this database contain name of the child, age and place of birth, the dates of admission and discharge. Some records also contain adoption or indenture information.

The information contained in this database is taken directly from the Admissions Book. There were some discrepancies noted as they relate to ages and birth dates. Additionally, some of the entries are confusing. For the most part, the information was filled in as the child arrived and departed from the orphanage and should reflect the information provided to the Home by either the surviving parent, child or the country sending the child to the facility.

Additional information on the Home and the records are available at the Nevada State Library and Archives in Carson City, Nevada.
