About Presbyterian Ministerial Directory 1898

1898 Presbyterian Ministerial Directory During the Summer of 1897, Edgar S. Robinson, D.D., was in the hospital recovering from surgery. While there, he realized that he had very little knowledge of the personnel of the Presbyterian Church. So, once recuperated, he endeavored to locate and record all ministers working for both the Northern and Southern Presbyterian churches of the United States. His work is recorded in the directory upon which this electronic database is based. All of the entries give the first and last name of the minister, and where he was working in 1898 when the original directory was published. This information can be extremely useful to those searching for person's who moved to a totally new location. Also, knowing what church the minister was serving may lead to other avenues of research. Most of the entries also contain valuable information about where the person was born, including a number who were born outside of the U.S in countries such as Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Canada. In some cases a birth date is also given. A date of Ordination is also given for a large percentage of the entries. Numerous ministers who were serving as missionaries outside of the United States are also included.
