About Missouri, U.S., United Methodist Church Records, 1856-1970

This collection contains indexed images of United Methodist Church registers from Missouri. The registers may contain baptisms, marriages, burials, memberships, and lists of clergy. See the browse menu for a list of the churches included in this collection.

Baptisms typically include the name of the child, parents’ names, baptism date, and by whom baptized. Marriage records include the date, the couple’s names, residences, groom’s occupation, ages, and the name of the officiant. Deaths included the name of the deceased, whether they were a member of the congregation, date of death, place and method of disposition of the body, and officiating minister. Membership records can be very revealing as they will often tell how the member came to be a part of the congregation. An infant baptism can be a clue that that member had been in the congregation for all of his or her life, and when congregation members transferred from a different congregation, often the previous congregation is noted, providing a previous residence.
