Limbach-Oberfrohna, Germany, School Lists, 1835-1920

This collection contains School Lists (Schülerlisten) from Limbach-Oberfrohna covering the years 1835 up to and including 1920. In the documents, these lists are called Gradebooks (Zensurbücher) or Class Books (Klassenbücher). This town was created in 1950 with the merger of the villiages of Limbach and Oberfrohna. It is located about 9 miles west of Chemnitz and about 43 miles southeast of Leipzig in the modern German state of Saxony. Limbach was first mentioned in a document from the year 1248. Limbach's main attraction is its 16th-century town hall. During the time period of this collection, until 1918, both localities belonged to the Kingdom of Saxony. This collection primarily contains records from the grade school in Kaufungen. Also included are some records from Bräunsdorf, Uhlsdorf and Limbach. The timeperiods covered vary.

This information served as the basis for report cards and was provided to the responsible "Inspectors" during visits and inspections. School Lists usually came in book form. Entries covered two pages divided into columns in table format. Usually multiple students are recorded on each page. Often boys and girls are separated into different groupings.
