About Furness Fells, England: Colton Parish Church Registers, 1623-1812

Furness Fells or High Furness constitutes the area of Furness north of the hills between Ulverston and Ireleth in Lancashire. It contains the northern part of the parish of Ulverston, and the parishes of Kirkby, Colton, and Hawkshead. (http://members.aol.com/FurnessFHS/fpw3.htm)

This database contains the Colton parish registers from 1623 to 1812. These registers contain baptismal or christening, marriage, and burial records. In addition, this work also contains a listing of all churchwardens from 1624 to 1643 and extracts of many epitaphs from the church's graveyard. Parish records can be wonderful sources of genealogical information. They become increasingly valuable when civil vital records are inaccessible or nonexistent.
