This database contains the New South Wales convict death register, which was kept from 1828-1879. The register recorded convicts who died while serving their sentence, though some ex-convicts are also listed. It was originally maintained by the Principal Superintendent of Convicts and later by the Convict Branch of the Inspector-General of Police.
Information recorded on the death register includes:
- Name of deceased
- Ship of Arrival
- Age at time of death
- Date of death or burial
- District or parish of residence
- Other remarks regarding the convict or his death (for example: cause of death, name of officiating priest or minister, status of the convict)
Entries are arranged alphabetically by convict surname and thereafter by death date.
