About Georgia, Deaths Index, 1914-1940

This database contains an index extracted from various death records from the state of Georgia.

What’s in the Index

An 1875 law that required counties to register births, marriages, and deaths was repealed in 1876. While some cities required that births and deaths be recorded, statewide registration did not begin until 1919, with compliance growing over the next decade. The original death records from which information was extracted for this index are housed by the Georgia Department of Health and Vital Statistics.
